Trying to write a book? Should I play it safe and just write vampire romance?

I wanted to write about something else bu it seems all people still want to read is vampire romance. I love urban fantasy, too, but I wanted to write something in a different genre and set myself apart from others. They say they want other stuff but they don't act like it, don't give other stuff a chance. So should I just fall back in line and write the VR. A regular romance doesn't have paranormal elements in it. You can suggest other creatures but people aren't buying those creatures, they want vampire romance. What do you think?
