Can I use a different subwoofer for my Kenwood VR-60RS receiver?

Yes. It will draw no power from the receiver. It has it's own built in amplifier. You will have to set up the receiver though by enabling the subwoofer option in the main menu under speakers. You may also have to set the other speakers to "small," Read the owner's manual of both units.
